Our biggest fundraiser of the year so far took place 5th-9th August and was our adventure to Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival near Beully in Invernesshire. We have been lucky enough to attend this beautiful family festival for the last 3 years with our special needs dogs and some wee furry handling. It has always been great for raising funds and awareness of our cause, as well as being a fantastic fun teambuilding weekend for the volunteers involved, and we were blessed with yet another wonderful experience this year.
We pushed the boat out even further this time by taking our two wee Shetland ponies Echo and Wispa to give pony rides to the little ones…needless to say, our wee cuties were a HUGE hit, spending the days being adored by their public, and the nights relaxing in a luxurious stable on the estate provided by the lovely Shirley! Our stalls were busier than ever this year, and none of the volunteers got a minute to themselves all day, but in the evenings we were rewarded with the chance to let our hair down and go see some bands!
The highlights for me personally this year were The Proclaimers and Kaiser Chiefs, as well as some truly special little random sets on the smaller stages. The Holi festival of colour was a huge hit with our young volunteers Shaun, Jamie, Oxanna, Max and Sophia, who all loved throwing the wee bags of powdered paint around and getting covered in it head to toe – a well-deserved reward for all their incredibly hard work!
Returning home exhausted but happy on the Sunday after 5 nonstop crazy days, we were over the moon to discover we had raised around £2000 for The Roost!!! Thanks sooo much to everyone who helped, visited us and supported us, and a massive thank you to the ‘home team’ who kept The Roost running and the residents cared for so well while we were away…bring on Bella 2016!
We have wanted an outdoor aviary for the longest time to house our rescued Cockatiels and Budgies rather than keep...
